Happy Father’s Day
I never knew my biological father, and my stepfather was extremely abusive to our family. However, I did find a father who was good to me beyond words. Growing up, there were two individuals I could confide in, but one day I had seemly come to the end of my rope and ran to my bedroom. While there I felt the urge to pat the empty space beside me and said, “Lord I do not have a loving father but I know you are a loving father. And I need to talk to someone that hears my heart and who will understand what I am feeling and saying.” Ever since that day I have had a listening companion, one that helps me over troubled waters, one that will talk with me, one that calls me His own, one that strengthens me on my Christian journey.
Jesus claims us as His own: “Yes, I swore an oath to you and entered into a covenant with you, and you became Mine, says the Lord GOD” (Ezekiel 16:8).
Unfortunately, in the Black and Brown communities there is an alarming shortage of fathers. We need fathers as never before; we need men of God in the worst way. A male figure in the home makes the difference of teaching young boys how to be men and fathers in their own homes. Girls need fathers to show them how they are to be treated because of the kind of treatment they give to their mother.
Men of God: as you experience the love of God in your own lives, you will be able to pass His love to others. “God loves you and has chosen you as His own special people. So be gentle, kind, humble, meek, and patient. Put up with each other, and forgive anyone who does you wrong, just as Christ has forgiven you” (Colossians 3:12-13 CEV). Happy Father’s Day!
