To Every Woman Who Affects the Lives of Others, Part 2

Jochebed, the mother of Moses, had limited say over what would happen to her son; yet, she used what opportunity she did have to save him and affect his growth and development. God honored her faith, not only by preserving the boy’s life but also by arranging circumstances that allowed Jochebed to serve as his nurse and mother.

Other women in the Bible also had a significant impact on saving Moses and shaping him into the man God called to lead the children of Israel out of Egypt and into freedom. First were two midwives, Shiphrah and Puah. When Pharaoh commanded that all Hebrew boys under age two be thrown into the Nile River, these two refused and came up with a strategy to save the boys. (Exodus 1: 17- 21) They held to the Lord’s command to respect and preserve human life. The price to pay was pale in comparison of displeasing God.

Another woman was the daughter of Pharaoh. In Hebrew, she is referred to simply as Bat-Paroh, which translates, ‘daughter of Pharaoh.’ She took Moses into her heart and home and gave him the finest of everything. She saved Moses from certain death by both the Nile River and the Pharaoh. Throughout Moses’s early life, she ensured his well-being. Her actions played an essential role in lifting the Hebrew slaves out of bondage in Egypt and toward their journey to the Promised Land. (Exodus 2: 1-10)

So, let us honor all women who have an influence on a child’s life –mother, stepmother, grandmother, aunt, guardian, teacher, caregiver, friend, etc.:

Honor a Sensitive Spirit
Women who hold children dear, especially mothers, have a sensitive spirit. So sensitive that she treasures her children, observes everything they do, rejoices when they show maturity and grieves when they act foolishly. A mother’s heart is like a storehouse; she treasures everything that happens to her family.

Honor a Sincere Faith
A woman is a part of God’s plan to hold fast to the truth, and to teach and nourish those in her care and circle of influence. All are to respect her place under God.

Honor a Servant Spirit
A woman of God has the heart of a servant. There is never a need to compete with the man because he is also called to be a servant. Her servant spirit extends to whomever she fellowships with, and whomever is under her care. Whether she is a mother or teacher, her servant-heart is toward the success of each child she comes into contact with.
